I finally read one of David’s books. I had been waiting to read one for a really long time, but there was always something else to read. The pile of books at my house TBR was too big to get another book, but when I bought my first Kindle, I got that book as well. And it was not a disappointment. From the beginning, I loved how creepy and funny it was.
The book was straightforward, and 268 pages was a perfect length for all the action.

I loved these weird and creepy scenes, like this one:
‘Courtney’s body shuddered unnaturally, her belly rippling and stretching, legs kicking wildly. One arm, long and grey and withered, extended out from between her tights, grasping at thin air, the greying, cracked skin drenched in blood that dripped from sharpened nails. A second arm appeared, splitting Courtney up to her navel, and she expired in a welter of blood-drenched screams. From inside her- from deep, deep inside her- Steve thought he saw a pair of eyes watching him with ghoulish interest. Below them gleamed rows of white teeth.
Whatever it was, it looked like it was smiling.’
I was reading this, and in my mind, I was like wtf? What the fricking hell is this? But I enjoyed it a lot. I loved how much fun I had with this book:
‘Once you’ve seen a witch tear a man inside out from his arsehole, you’ve seen it all.’
Yeah, it was one of the fun ones.
The only thing I didn’t get that much was the ritual to let Maggie return to her lovely grave on the top of the mountain. Why orgy? I thought they only had to give her baby, but this was a little weird, and I would love to have more info about the background of this ritual. At the same time, it was so ridiculous that I laughed at reading this orgy scene. Didn’t expect something like that.
The ending surprised me. I didn’t expect this plot twist, and I enjoyed how it ended.
With pleasure, I will give this book 4/5
